Recovery Roadmap:
Navigating the Middle Seasons
Recovery isn’t a straight line; it’s an underground process. Whether you are healing from surgery, a loss, or a season of ‘stuckness,’ this map is designed to help you find your footing when the ground feels thin.
Stage 1:
The Spore
Stage 1: The Spore (The Season of Landing)
The Focus: Acceptance & Surrender
The Teaching: Before we can grow, we must fall. This is the stage of letting go of the “should-have-beens.” We must be still in the soil where we’ve been placed, trusting that being “stuck” is actually being “planted".”
The Rootnote: Stop fighting your current location. If you are a person of faith, sit with Psalm 46:10 and let the Gardener take the weight of your striving. If you aren’t there yet, practice “Radical Acceptance” - name one thing about your present situation you will stop resisting today. Let the ground hold you.
Stage 2:
The Reaching
Stage 2: Hyphae (The Reaching)
The Focus: Micro-Movements & Hope.
The Teaching: When the visible world feels frozen, life reaches deep. This stage is about the tiny, internal wins-finding the strength to reach for the light when the heart feels heavy or the body feels slow.
The Rootnote: Reach for a “Mustard Seed.” For the believer, this is a whisper of prayer. For the seeker, it is a single moment of gratitude. Identify one tiny victory-a better thought or a moment of patience-and trust that it is enough.
Stage 3:
The Mycelial Mat
Stage 3: The Mycelial Mat (The Support)
The Focus: Connection & The Living Network.
The Teaching: No one heals in isolation; the weight is too heavy for one root. We lean on the living network-the wisdom of those who have walked this path before and the community currently standing with us.
The Rootnote: Lean on the Network. If you follow the Gardener, ask a brother or sister to carry the weight with you in prayer. If you are leaning on the strength of the community, share a “Mercy Gift” - an honest word about where you are. Let the network hold you today.
Stage 4:
The Primordia
Stage 4: The Primordia (The Sovereignty)
The Focus: Identity & Agency.
The Teaching: This is the first sign of a new identity breaking the surface. You are reclaiming your sovereignty and recognizing your value is inherent-it is a gift, not something you earned. You are being restored, not just repaired.
The Rootnote: Declare a Truth. For the faithful, remind yourself you are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” For everyone, acknowledge your “Inherent Dignity” - do one thing today that makes you feel like “you” again, independent of your struggle.
Stage 5:
The Fruiting Body
Stage 5: The Fruiting Body (The Testimony & The New Life)
The Focus: Witness & Integration.
The Teaching: Your healing is no longer just for you; it has become a resource for the entire forest. This stage is about living “out loud”- integrating the lessons learned in the dark into your daily rhythm to provide hope for everyone around you.
The Rootnote: Offer your “Spores.” If you follow follow the Gardener, share a story of HIs faithfulness; your testimony is a light for the path. If you are leaning on the network, take one lesson you learned in the dark and use it to ease someone else’s burden. Whether in a conversation or in the Rooted Voices clearing, your story provides the nutrients someone else needs to survive their own Stage 1.
The Map is Not the Journey
Recovery isn’t about perfectly checking off these boxes; it’s about the life that happens in between them. No matter which stage you are currently rooted in, remember that the network is holding you. Your growth might be slow, but it is steady.
The soil is working, even when we are waiting. Keep reaching. 🌿
